SHANE WIBEL
Shane Wibel (SHS Class of 1993). Athlete, Professor, Inspiration. Shane has been
an integral part of the success of students throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Shane was a member of the first graduating class of the re-opened Sisters High
School and is one of the special “baker’s dozen” - those 13 students who attended
school in Sisters from kindergarten through the first SHS graduation in 1993.
Shane excelled on the football field and basketball court, but really shined on the
track and field team – placing third in the discus at the State Championships and
establishing a school record in the discus that still stands today. Since high school,
Shane has had a remarkable career as an educator. Combining his love of teaching
and athletics, Shane ultimately obtained his master’s degree and now is an
esteemed college professor and certified athletic trainer. His many
accomplishments include head athletic trainer with teams and colleges throughout
the Pacific Northwest (including Willamette University, Western Oregon
University, and the Seattle Thunderbirds). He is one of four full time professors
teaching in the Masters of Athletic Training program at Whitworth University.
Shane’s research and scholarly works have been presented at professional
conferences throughout the country, and Shane has received multiple awards and
honors for his efforts. Perhaps most impressive is Shane’s ability to inspire. Shane
(the first in his family to attend college) has risen to esteemed college professor
and trainer, and has fostered a sense of community, loyalty, pride, faith, and family
among all who are fortunate to know him.
